An abridged history of The Orchard Melbourne Seventh-day Adventist CITY Church and why we would like you to financially support the Orchard Bible Workers Program. Over the last 12 years since my team and I planted the Orchard Seventh-day Adventist Church in Melbourne’s CBD (474 Flinders Street), and being the only SDA Church in Melbourne City, we have ministered to hundreds of people who have been unemployed,
affected by drugs/alcohol, homeless, friendless, dispirited and others who have wanted to learn more about God’s Word in Melbourne’s CBD. Nobody was ever turned away at the Orchard and nobody gets turned away at the Orchard.
To reach these people my team and I have run a variety of evangelistic programs, including Last Day Events, Archaeology, Health and nutrition series, and Six-day Creation series. We have used the social media, posters and letterbox materials to market ourselves and promote our programs. We have done extensive street ministry particularly focusing on surveys with good results. As our result we have had a number of baptisms over the years.
for that reason; we are wanting to commence an extensive Bible Worker Program from the Orchard.
Where men and women will work Melbourne’s CBD and Inner Suburbs finding Christ’s lost sheep and bringing them into the one-fold (John 10). It is for this reason we want to launch our extensive Bible worker program, where eventually we will be employing multiple workers, with each one working in Melbourne’s CBD and inner suburbs for twenty hours a week and each one will be generously reimbursed. Our Bible workers will not be ministering to the already convinced, i.e. to Adventists, their focus will be on finding new contacts.
at the Orchard to use those skill sets and in public venues. They will be shown how to door knock Melbourne’s CBD and Inner Suburbs, at the same time how to deal with objections. They will be involved in street ministry, not pantomimes, but real street evangelism using surveys or book tables to find interests and then eventually do Bible studies with new contacts. They will be taught how to run health programs particularly focusing on Blood Pressure Testing Ministry in the CBD and local shopping centres. They will distribute our literature like the leaves of autumn or to quote Mrs. White more precisely “Unvarnished truth must be spoken in leaflets and pamphlets, and these must be scattered like the leaves of autumn” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 9, p. 230).
people to a close examination of the Word, and to the true light in regard to the power that has changed the seventh-day Sabbath to a spurious sabbath. The only true God has been forsaken, His law has been discarded, His sacred Sabbath institution has been trampled in the dust by the man of sin. The fourth commandment, so plain and explicit, has been ignored. The Sabbath memorial, declaring who the living God is, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, has been torn down, and a spurious sabbath has been given to the world in its place. Thus a breach has been made in the law of God.’ 2SM p. 105. We at the Orchard see this as a clarion call to mission and to reach those people who are yet to hear the truth in Melbourne.
